SUBJECT: 3-PIECE EXHAUST MANIFOLD ASSEMBLIES ON 3056E ENGINES INSTALLED IN M300C SERIES WHEELED EXCAVATORS
PROBLEM:
The sliding joints on the exhaust manifold will leak gas. There is also evidence of soot and spotting at the joints of the exhaust manifold on 3056E engines that have early hours of operation.
SOLUTION:
By nature of the design, the 3-piece exhaust manifolds are sliding joint assemblies that allow for expansion and contraction during normal operating conditions. Soot or spotting at these joints is normal from 0 hours to 150 hours of machine operation. It is at this time that the joints are expected to seal.
To ensure that these joints will seal at much earlier hours a Design change is in progress to reduce dimensional clearances in the tolerance band of the exhaust manifold sliding joints.
