SUBJECT: CHECK FOR CLEARANCE WHEN INSTALLING NEW ELECTRIC
STARTING MOTORS
PROBLEM:
Interference may exist between the electric starting motor and the engine block. The 6V-0890 Electric Motor Group is the starting motor in the optional cold weather starting aid package. The standard starting motor does not have any interference because it is smaller than the starting motor that is used in the cold weather starting aid package.
SOLUTION:
If interference with the boss on the engine block exists when installing a new starting motor, remove material from the boss on the engine block. Clearance is checked and material is removed if interference exists during factory assembly. Manufacturing tolerances can affect the clearance when a new or a different starting motor is installed. The location of the starting motor and the boss on the engine block is shown in Illustration 1.
