SUBJECT: SERVICE SUPPORT OF CERTAIN 320C EXCAVATORS

PROBLEM:

Caterpillar Redistribution Services Inc. (CRSI) will soon be receiving certain machines that will be distributed within the North American Commercial Division (NACD). Because the machines were configured for use inside Japan (ISJ), they will be different from the machines that are produced in Japan and configured for use outside Japan (OSJ). The differences between the OSJ version and the ISJ version may create confusion for service and support personnel.

SOLUTION:

Identification of the differences between the two machine versions will provide service and support personnel with the information necessary to efficiently perform their duties. The following tables list the differences between the versions. A cross-reference list of available support literature is also provided.

Cab

Similar

Cab

The metal roof hatch needs to be supported in NACD. Some glass types may vary, but the size should be the same. The ISJ version does not have vandal guard or vandal guard bosses.

Air Conditioner

Similar

Air Conditioner

All machines will have an air conditioner. A parts list is being developed.

Cab Heater

Different

Cab Heater

The ISJ version machines do not have a cab heater.

Counterweight

Similar

Counterweight

The ISJ version does not have lifting eyes. The OSJ version with lifting eyes is a direct replacement at the group level.

Cab Radio

Different

Cab Radio

Some ISJ version machines may be equipped with a 24 volt AM radio because they do not have a 12 volt radio circuit.
