SUBJECT: MODIFICATION TO PREVENT OIL BLOWING THROUGH THE 165-8460 VENT AS.

PROBLEM:

There have been problems of oil blowing through the 165-8460 Vent As. during compactor operations. Previous modifications have not been successful in eliminating this problem.

The 165-8460 Vent As. provides pressure relief during operations to protect the drum?s bearing seals. The 165-8460 Vent As. is part of the 165-8458 Shaft Cover Gp., which is located on the shaft end of the drum, opposite of the drum motor.

SOLUTION:

Perform the following modification to the 165-8458 Shaft Cover Gp.

Remove the original 165-4860 Vent As. (A) from Elbow (B). See Figure 1.

Or, if previously modified, remove the 8L-6005 Tee (1) with the 165-4860 Vent As. (A) and the 3J-5390 Plug (2) from Elbow (B). See Figure 2.

Install the 3B-7721 Reducer Bushing (2) in Elbow (B). See Figure 3.
Then, install the 4B-4550 Relief Fitting (1) in the 3B-7721 Reducer Bushing (2).

Note: Apply 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant to the threads when you install the reducer bushing and the relief fitting.
