SUBJECT: CHECK THE FUEL TRANSFER PUMP PRESSURE WHEN FUEL FILTER
FAULT CODES ARE DISPLAYED ON CERTAIN EXCAVATORS

PROBLEM:

Fault codes MID 36 EID 00095 "Fuel Filter Restriction" and MID 36 EID 5 "Fuel Filter Restriction Derate" indicate that the fuel transfer pump may not be delivering adequate fuel pressure.

SOLUTION:

Check the fuel pump pressure when the fuel filters are replaced for a premature fuel filter fault code. Use the Engine Status screen in the Electronic Technician (ET) to check the fuel pressure. The delivery pressure should be 434 ? 145 kPa (63 ? 21 psi).

Check the pressure regulator orifice on the fuel pump before replacing the fuel pump. Debris in the pressure regulator will restrict the flow of fuel.

Also check the pressure regulator orifice at the fuel line connection to the engine cylinder head. Remove the regulator orifice and check for debris.
