PROBLEM

Hydraulic warm up procedures should always be followed as stated in the machine Operation and Maintenance Manual. Operating a machine prior to completing these procedures can result in a thermal shock condition in cold weather. The existing spool of the stick regeneration valve can stick or seize inside the valve when the hydraulic oil is cold during winter on Excavators. If the existing spool fails, it will cause or result in a drift of the stick, even if the joystick control lever is back into the neutral position.

ACTION REQUIRED

The part number of the stick regeneration valve has not changed with the improvement to the valve. The dealer should verify the part number of the existing valve on the machine and order that same part number valve. When the valve is received from parts, ensure that the valve serial number that is stamped on the stick regeneration valve is the latest valve. The serial number of the new valve should be marked with FE0064 - Up or FEH2133 - Up, as outlined in the SEPD1564, Service Magazine, "An Improved Stick Regeneration Valve is Now Used on Certain 336E Excavators".

Refer to Image1 for the stick regeneration valve number location.

Rework Procedure

1. Position the machine on level ground in the service position.

2. Stop the engine.

3. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".

4. Attach a 311-1362 Vacuum Cap onto the hydraulic tank. Attach an air supply hose onto the assembly. Apply 276 to 414 kPa (40 to 60 psi). This procedure will pull a vacuum on the hydraulic system.

5. Remove the hydraulic lines from regeneration valve (1) located on the rear of the main control valve. Install 6V-9508 Plugs (11/16 ORFS) with 6V-8397 O-ring Seals (11/16) on each of the hydraulic lines. Refer to Image1.1.1.

6. Remove the adapters from the regeneration valve.
Image1.1.1

7. Remove six bolts (2) and the regeneration valve from the main control valve. Refer to Image1.2.1.
Image1.2.1

8. Inspect the main valve and ensure surface (A) is free of any debris. Refer to Image1.3.1.

9. Install the regeneration valve with the new seals with bolts removed.

10. Install the adapters and the hydraulic lines.
Image1.3.1

11. Follow the guidelines stated in the Operation and Maintenance Manual in order to warm up the hydraulic system.
