Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the turbocharger.

  2. Remove the water temperature regulator housing.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

    ------ CAUTION! ------

    The ends of the bellows are very sharp. Injury could occur if the bellows are not handled properly. Handle the bellows by the convolutions.


  1. Remove tube assemblies (3).

  2. Remove nuts (3) and spacers (1). Discard nuts (2).

  3. Remove exhaust manifold (4) and the gaskets.

    Note: Note the orientation of the exhaust manifold sections for use in installation procedure.

  4. Separate exhaust manifold sections (5), (6), and (7).

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Install exhaust manifold assembly (4) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply a thin coat of Tooling (B) to the outside of the male ends of manifold sections (5) and (7). Apply a thin coat of Tooling (C) to the inside of the female ends of manifold section (6).

      Torque Sequence

    2. Apply Tooling (A) on the threads of nuts (2).

    3. Install Tooling (C) at Locations (X). Position spacers (1) and install new nuts (2). Hand tighten nuts (2). Remove Tooling (D). Install remaining spacers (1) and nuts (2). Tighten nuts (2) in the above sequence to a torque of 20 ± 3 N·m (15 ± 2 lb ft). Tighten nuts (2) again in the above sequence to a torque of 50 ± 5 N·m (37 ± 4.0 lb ft).
