Illustration 1 g02449876 Engine speed dial - Set the engine speed dial at "10".
- Lower the left console.
- Position the machine on level ground. Check the visibility and adjust the mirrors for the best vision close to the machine.
- Fully depress the service brake pedal until the service brake pedal locks mechanically.
- Lower the stabilizers and blade tip.
- Fully extend the bucket cylinder and place the bucket on the ground.
- Stop the engine.
- Release the pressure in the hydraulic system.
Note: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".
- Raise the left console.
- Position the wheel so that oil fill/drain plug (1) is on the left side of the wheel. Refer to Illustration 2.

NOTICE Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
- Carefully remove oil fill/drain plug (1).

(6) Piston - When the service brakes are not applied, piston (6) is in contact with internal gear (5) by the compression spring. Insert indicator contact point (4), that is the appropriate length, through plug hole (3) and into contact with piston (6). Set the indicator dial to zero. Refer to Illustration 1.

(X) Piston stroke - Apply the service brakes and determine piston stroke (X) via the dial indicator movement.
- Refer to Table 1 in order to determine if the clutch discs need to be replaced. If Dimension (X) exceeds the value that is shown in Table 1, replace the clutch discs.
- Remove dial indicator (2).
- Use a new O-Ring seal and reinstall oil fill/drain plug (1). Tighten the oil fill/drain plug to a torque of
50 N·m (37 lb ft) .
Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement. Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine. |
