Removal Procedure

1. The screed must be at the null point before you work on the screed plates. Lower the screed on a flat surface.

2. Remove bolt (2) and platform assembly (1) in order to access the inner two threaded rods.

3. Loosen threaded rod (3) and remove deflector plates (4) . Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Deflector Plates (Strike-Off) - Remove and Install " for further instructions.

4. Remove nuts (5) on the leading edge of the main screed plate.

5. Stabilize the screed frames by installing Tooling (A) to the rear and the front of the screed frame.

6. Remove bolts (6) .

7. Lift cover (7) and disconnect harness assemblies (8) .

8. Remove nuts (9) on the trailing edge of main screed plate (12) .

9. Remove bolts (11) that retain sensor (10) to main screed plate (12) .

10. Start the engine.

11. Raise the screed and drive the machine forward. Shut off the engine.

12. Remove main screed plate (12) . The weight of main screed plate (12) is approximately 98 kg (216 lb).

13. Remove spacer bar (15) from screed plate (12) .

14. Remove connectors (13) from cover (14) .

15. Remove cover (14) from screed plate (12) .

16. Remove bolts (16) and the brackets.

17. Remove heater elements (17) and (18) from screed plate (12) .

18. Repeat Step 14 through Step 17 on the other half of the screed plate.

19. Remove studs (19) from screed plate (12) .

Installation Procedure

1. Place main screed plate (12) on a flat surface. The weight of main screed plate (12) is approximately 98 kg (216 lb).

2. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of studs (19) . Install studs (19) in screed plate (12) and tighten to a torque of 70 ± 12 N·m (52 ± 9 lb ft). Grind studs (19) flush with the bottom of screed plate (12) .

3. Apply Tooling (C) to a width of 10 mm (0.4 inch) and to a thickness of 5 mm (0.2 inch) to elements (17) and (18) . Install elements (17) and (18) onto screed plate (12) .

4. Install the brackets and bolts (16) onto screed plate (12) .

5. Install cover (14) onto screed plate (12) .

6. Install connectors (13) to cover (14) .

7. Repeat Step 2 through Step 6 on the other half of the screed plate.

8. Install spacer bar (15) to screed plate (12) .

9. Set the rear adjusters to 9.5 mm (0.4 inch) (E) .

10. Start the engine.

11. Raise the screed in order to clear the studs on the main screed plate.

12. Lower the screed to the ground.

13. Shut off the machine.

14. Install bolts (11) that retain sensor (10) to main screed plate (12) .

15. Install nuts (9) on the trailing edge of main screed plate (12) .

16. Remove the bolt , the two washers , and the nut between the two rear main frame assemblies.

17. Lift cover (7) and connect harness assembly (8) .

18. Install bolts (6) .

19. Install nuts (5) on the leading edge of the main screed plate.

20. Remove Tooling (A) from the front and the rear main frame assemblies.

21. Lower deflector plates (4) . Turn threaded rod (3) until deflector plates (4) are flush with the start of the radius of the nose bar. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Deflector Plates (Strike-Off) - Remove and Install " for further instructions.

22. Install front walkway (1) and bolt (2) .
