AP-1055D and BG-2455D Asphalt Pavers Propel System Caterpillar

Piston Pump Flow - Test - Steel Track

Usage:

AP-1055D A6P
Note: This procedure tests the pump flow rate by measuring the speed of the tracks. This machine is equipped with two identical propulsion pumps. One pump provides the flow in order to drive the right track. The second pump provides the flow in order to drive the left track. This test should be performed on both sides of the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Injury to personnel can result if they are not in the operator's view. Allow only essential personnel near the machine, and make sure the personnel are in the operator's view when testing, to prevent injury. Make sure checks are done in an open area.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent injury or death, never work under a machine while a test is being performed.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy component.

The heavy component can fall if using an incorrect hoist and/or sling or fastener to lift the load.

Be sure the hoist and other devices have the correct lifting capacity to lift a heavy component. The approximate weight of the heavy component is given below.

  1. Move propulsion lever (2) to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Rotate speed dial (3) to the MINIMUM position.

  1. Move travel mode switch (6) to the PAVE position.

  1. Move parking brake switch (4) to the ON position.

  1. Move screed lower switch (7) to the RAISE position. Completely raise the screed.

  1. Move throttle control switch (5) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.

  1. After the engine reaches low idle, move engine start switch (1) to the OFF position.

  1. Place a small strip of reflective tape (Tool (B) ) on final drive housing (10). Repeat this process for the other side of the machine.

  1. Clear all personnel away from the machine except for the operator and an assistant. Ensure that the assistant remains at least 1.22 m (4 ft) away from the machine and in full view of the operator.

  1. Move key switch (8) to the ON position. Move engine start switch (1) to the START position. Release the engine start switch when the engine starts.

  1. Move throttle control switch (5) to the HIGH IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second. The engine speed will increase to 2310 rpm.

  1. Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature with Tool (C). Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43° ± 5.6°C (110° ± 10°F).

  1. Rotate speed dial (3) to the MAXIMUM position.

  1. Move parking brake switch (4) to the OFF position.

  1. Move propulsion lever (2) to the full FORWARD position.

  1. Use Tool (A) in order to measure the rotational speed of final drive housing (10). The speed should be 26 ± 2.5 rpm. Perform this step for both sides of the machine.

  1. Move propulsion lever (2) to the full REVERSE position.

  1. Use Tool (A) in order to measure the rotational speed of final drive housing (10). The speed should be 26 ± 2.5 rpm. Perform this step for both sides of the machine.

  1. Move propulsion lever (2) to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Rotate speed dial (3) to the MINIMUM position.

  1. Move parking brake switch (4) to the ON position.

  1. Move throttle control switch (5) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.

  1. After the engine reaches low idle, move engine start switch (1) to the OFF position.

  1. Move key switch (8) to the OFF position.

  1. Use a suitable lifting device to lower the machine to the ground.
