Grapple Damper Brake Inspection
Note: Perform the following procedure prior to making any adjustments in order to ensure safe operation.
- Check the wear of spring pad (5). Replace the spring pad, if necessary.
- Clean brake disc (7) of grease and oil in order to ensure proper operation.
- Ensure that retaining ring (1) is secured inside the damper housing.
- Check the wear of brake disc (7). Measure the thickness of brake disc (7) at point (A) and at point (B), as shown. If the thickness difference is greater than 1.0 mm (.04 inch), the disc should be replaced.

Grapple Damper Brake Adjustment
Note: Prior to making any adjustments, ensure that retaining rings (1) are securely in place in the damper housing. Do not perform any adjustment of the damper brake or service of the damper brake without first installing retaining rings (1) .
The damping effect is proportional to the amount of torque that is applied to bolt (6). The damping effect will increase as more torque is applied to bolt (6). The damping effect will decrease as less torque is applied to bolt (6) .
- Loosen locknut (2) .
- Tighten bolt (6) in order to increase the braking effect. Loosen bolt (6) in order to decrease the braking effect.
- Secure bolt (6) with locknut (2). Tighten locknut (8) to a torque of 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
Note: When you increase the torque on bolt (6), you will increase the wear on the brake.
