Service Magazine SEPD0608, 10 December 2001, "New Slack Adjusters are Used for Improved Service Life". The effectivity of this article has changed and additional part numbers are available. Disregard this article. Replace the article with the following article.

Description of Change: The new slack adjusters contain a new piston assembly. New tooling is available for the assembly of the piston assembly. The new tooling and the new piston assembly will increase the service life of the slack adjusters.

Adaptable To: The new adjuster groups are direct replacements for the existing adjuster groups. The new adjuster groups use the new 205-0561 Piston. The new piston is serviced by the new 205-0567 Repair Kit (Piston). The new adjuster groups are effective with the following machines: 784C (S/N: 2PZ1), 785C (S/N: APX295), 785C HAA (S/N: 5AZ274), 789C (S/N: 2BW551) and 797 (S/N: 5YW256). The adjuster groups are adaptable to all earlier machines by using the 205-0567 Repair Kit (Piston). Refer to Table 1 for the new part numbers and for the existing part numbers.

  1. Stop pushing piston (2) when piston (2) is halfway inside of Tool (C). Leave piston (2) in this position for at least 1 minute.

Note: Tool (C) forces the seals inward. This will ease the installation of piston (2) .

  1. After 1 minute, remove piston (2) from Tool (C) .
