Reference: For more information on adjusting the high speed, low speed, and crawl speed, refer to Systems Operation, RENR6128, "Computer Aided Bucking System for Windows® (CABSWIN)", "Machine Variable".
Stroke limiter screws in the main control valve will determine the maximum speed of the feed roller motors. If the maximum speed is too slow the harvester head will not delimb the tree. If the maximum speed is too high, the oil flow to the feed rollers will drop and the harvester head will not operate correctly. The stroke limiter screws will be adjusted in the following procedure.

Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure. Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury. Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Prepare the machine for adjustment.
Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Preparation for Troubleshooting".
- Ensure that the hydraulic oil in the system is at normal operating temperature. To warm the hydraulic oil, operate the feed roller motors for several minutes.
- Lower the harvester head to the ground. Turn the switch for the computer aided bucking system to the OFF position. Stop the engine.
- Clean the inside of the rim for the left feed roller. Clean the inside of the rim for the right feed roller.
- Cut two pieces of 1U-6605 Reflective Tape. Each piece of tape should be approximately two inches long. Attach two pieces of reflective tape (2) to the inside of the rim of each feed roller. Evenly space the two pieces of tape on the rim.

- Start the engine. Turn the engine speed dial until the engine is operating at 1800 RPM. Turn the switch for the computer aided bucking system to the ON position. Press "Enter" on the keypad. Raise the harvester head approximately 0.3 m (1 ft) above the ground.
- Point 1U-6602 Photo-Tachometer (1) toward the pieces of reflective tape.
- Press and hold button (8). Record the speed of the left feed roller in the forward direction. Release the button.

Note: The holding arm and the delimbing knives will close when the feed roller motors are operated.
- Press and hold button (9). Record the speed of the left feed roller in the reverse direction. Release the button.
- Press and hold button (8). Record the speed of the right feed roller in the forward direction. Release the button.
- Press and hold button (9). Record the speed of the right feed roller in the reverse direction. Release the button.
- The recorded speeds should be close to the values in Table 2. To adjust the speed of the feed rollers, perform Step 14 through Step 15.
Note: The left feed roller and the right feed roller must turn at the same speed.

- Lower the harvester head to the ground. Turn the switch for the computer aided bucking system to the OFF position. Stop the engine.
- Loosen the locknut for the function that must be adjusted. Turn the adjustment screw in the clockwise direction in order to decrease the speed of the wheels. Turn the adjustment screw in the counterclockwise direction in order to increase the speed of the wheels. Tighten the locknut.
- Repeat Step 9 through Step 12. Verify that the speed is correct for both feed roller motors. If the speed is not correct, Repeat Step 14 through Step 15. If the speed is correct proceed to Step 17.
- Lower the harvester head to the ground. Turn the switch for the computer aided bucking system to the OFF position. Stop the engine.
- Connect connector (3) .
- Activate the function in order to test the new setting of the stroke limiter screws. The feed roller arms will close. Listen for excessive noise. Excessive noise indicates that the motors are not turning at the same speed. Adjust the stroke limiter screws until the feed rollers turn with little noise.
- Lower the harvester head to the ground. Turn the switch for the computer aided bucking system to the OFF position. Stop the engine. Install the valve cover.
