Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine. To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps. Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on. |
- Open the hood.
- Disconnect wires (1) and (2) from the alternator.

Note: Put identification marks on all wires for installation purposes.
- Loosen bolt (3), and move alternator (4) toward the engine in order to release the tension on V-belt (6). Remove V-belt (6) from the alternator drive pulley.

- Remove bolt (3) from the alternator.
- Remove alternator pivot bolt (5) and alternator (4) from the engine.
- Remove the drive pulley nut and the washer from alternator (4). Remove the alternator drive pulley.
Installation Procedure
- Install the alternator drive pulley. Install the drive pulley nut and the washer on alternator (4). The torque for the drive pulley nut is 102 ± 7 N·m (75 ± 5 lb ft).

- Install alternator (4) and alternator pivot bolt (5). Do not tighten bolt (5) at this time.
- Install bolt (3) on the alternator. Do not tighten bolt (3) at this time.
- Install V-belt (6) on the alternator drive pulley.
- Adjust the V-belt tension.
Note: Check the tension of the fan drive belt. Use a Kent Moore Company BT-33-97 gauge. The correct tension for a new V-belt is 534 ± 22 N (120 ± 5 lb). The correct tension for a used V-belt is 400 ± 44 N (90 ± 10 lb). A used V-belt has been active over 30 minutes at rated speed.
- Tighten bolt (3) and alternator pivot bolt (5). The torque for bolts (3) and (5) is 105 ± 20 N·m (78 ± 15 lb ft).
- Connect wires (1) and (2) to the alternator. The torque for the output terminal is 7.1 ± .9 N·m (63 ± 8 lb in). The torque for the ground terminal nut is 6.2 ± .6 N·m (55 ± 5 lb in). The torque for the terminal nut for the warning light is 2.26 ± .57 N·m (20 ± 5 lb in).

- Close the hood.
End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
