Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Operate the machine until the oil in the transfer gear case is warm.
Park the machine on level ground. Fully retract and fully lower the boom. Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL position and ensure that the parking brake is engaged. Shut off the engine.
- Remove filler plug (1).
- Remove magnetic drain plug (2) and drain the oil into a suitable container.
- Clean the magnetic drain plug and install the magnetic drain plug back into the housing.
- Add new oil until the oil reaches the bottom of the filler plug hole.
- Clean the filler plug and install the filler plug back into the housing.
