Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Park the machine on a level surface. Ensure that the parking brake is fully engaged.
If your machine has the following serial number, ensure that the suspension is at the normal ride height: (S/N: AFX1-1000; AGF1-933)
- Shut off the engine and allow the level of the oil to stabilize.

Illustration 1 g00948869 - Check the oil level on sight glass (1). The sight glass is located within panel (2) on the left side of the machine.

Illustration 2 g00948865 - The oil must be at the highest level (3) when the oil is at operating temperature. When the oil is cold the oil must be halfway between the highest level and the lowest level (4) on the sight glass. Maintain the oil at these levels.
If necessary, add oil through the oil filler tube.

Note: Panel (2) has been removed for photographic clarity on illustration 2. It is not necessary to remove the panel in order to check the oil level.
