NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Release all hydraulic oil pressure.

Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

    (1) Relief valves. (2) Swing motor. (3) Swing brake. (4) Port Z. (5) Swing drive.

  1. Disconnect the hydraulic line that is attached to port Z (4) on swing brake (3). Cap the hydraulic line with one 6V-6829 Cap Assembly and plug port Z with one 6V-9508 Face Seal Plug. The hydraulic line that is attached to port Z releases the swing brake.

Note: The hydraulic line must be disconnected because the hydraulic activation control lever will be in the UNLOCKED position during the test.

    (6) Tee. (7) Case drain hose.

  1. Disconnect case drain hose (7) from tee (6) .

  1. Cap case drain hose (7) with one 6V-9832 Cap Assembly .

  1. Connect a suitable hose to tee (6). Place the open end of the hose into a separate container for measuring.

  1. Start the engine.

    (8) Hydraulic activation control lever in the UNLOCKED position. (9) Crossbar.

  1. Shift hydraulic lock lever (8) into the UNLOCKED position.

  1. Warm the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature. Normal operating temperature is 60° ± 10°C (140 ± 18°F).

  1. After the oil has reached normal operating temperature, lower the grapple to the ground.

  1. Run the engine at high idle. High idle speed for this machine is 2350 ± 50 RPM.

  1. Operate the swing motor for one minute by pressing the foot pedal. The swing motor will be in a stall condition.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Perform this test procedure three times in order to obtain three measurements. Change the position of the swing motor for each test procedure.

Note: The maximum acceptable case drain oil is 5.7 L/min (1.5 US gpm) with a swing relief valve setting of 31000 kPa (4500 psi).

  1. If the measurement of case drain oil is above the maximum acceptable amount the swing motor could be damaged. Inspection of the internal components of the swing motor is suggested.

  1. Release all hydraulic system pressure.

  1. Reconnect all hydraulic lines.
