Muffler - Remove

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Install truck body retaining cable. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Truck Body Retaining Cable - Remove and Install".

Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.


  1. Install suitable wheel chocks.

  2. Remove washers and bolts (2) in order to remove the cover assembly (1).

  3. Use a suitable lifting device to remove the cover assembly (1). The weight of cover assembly (1) is approximately 23 kg (49 lb).

  4. Remove bolts (3) from the bracket assembly (4).

  5. Loosen a nut and move clamp (5) onto the muffler.

  6. Position a suitable lifting device around muffler assembly (6). Remove bolts (7), the nuts and four straps (8) in order to remove muffler assembly. The weight of each muffler assembly (6) is approximately 47 kg (103 lb).

  7. Repeat Step 4 through Step 6 for the remaining muffler assembly (6).
