Steering System Pressure - Test

Usage:

IT14G 1WN

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from improperly checking for a leak.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. Escaping air or fluid under pressure, even a pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue causing serious injury, and possible death.

If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent personal injury when checks are made while the machine is in operation, make sure only approved personnel are on the machine. Keep other personnel off the machine and in view of the operator. Make sure checks are done in an open area.

----------------------

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

This test checks that the relief valve in the priority valve is operating correctly.

    (1) Hose. (2) Tee.

  1. Disconnect hose (1). Install 6V-3965 Nipple Assembly to 7X-0871 Tee (2). Install tee (2) and 6V-8398 O-Ring Seal. This is shown in Figure 1.

  1. Install one 6V-4143 Coupler Assembly to each end of the 6V-3014 Hose. Install 6V-3989 Unvalved Nipple to 8T-0859 Pressure Gauge. The pressure gauge has a range of 0 to 25000 kPa (0 to 3600 psi). Install the pressure gauge to one end of the 6V-3014 Hose. Install the other end of the hose assembly to the nipple assembly on pressure tap (2) .

  1. Turn the steering wheel to the right or to the left all the way against the stops. Keep the steering wheel turned. The gauge should read 21100 ± 1000 kPa (3060 ± 145 psi).
