The 4C-8195 Service Tool is helpful for the service person to make the proper electrical connections at the Caterpillar Monitoring System service connector during troubleshooting. Three connectors are wired in parallel so that the service tool is usable on the different types of machine harnesses. The service tool connects to the Caterpillar Monitoring System through the service mode connector located below the Caterpillar Monitoring System.

The following instructions pertain to accessing information regarding the Transmission Electronic Control System only. See Service Manual, SENR6717, "Caterpillar Monitoring System" to learn how the different modes and the display area operate. Use the Testing And Adjusting portion of THIS MANUAL to troubleshoot the faults for the Transmission Electronic Control System.

To Enter Service Mode Press and hold the "MODE" switch (1). Release the "MODE" switch when the number 3 is shown in the display area. If no faults have been detected, "- - -" is shown in the display area (5). If a service code is showing in the display area (5), it is on-hold at this time. If service code indicator (6) shows "SERV CODE" at this time, the fault is currently present.

To Scroll Through The Service Codes press and hold the "SCROLL" switch (3). Release the "SCROLL" switch when the desired service code is being shown. The service code being showing, is on-hold at this time.

To Clear A Service Code press and release the "CLEAR" switch (2) while the desired service code is being shown. In order to clear a service code, it must no longer be present ("SERV CODE" OFF).

To Enter Calibration Mode Press and hold the "MODE" switch (1). Release the "MODE" switch when the number 6 is shown in display area (5).

To Scroll Through The Submodes Press and hold the "SCROLL" switch (3). Release the "SCROLL" switch when the desired submode number is being shown.

To Adjust A Value Within A Submode see Testing and Adjusting, "Calibrations".

To Return To Normal Mode Press and hold "MODE" switch (1). Release the "MODE" switch when display area (5) is showing normal information (hourmeter or gear indicator).
