Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Open the hood and apply the hood latch.

  1. Mark wires for identification in order for installation. Disconnect the wires that connect to the alternator (2) .

  1. Loosen bolt (1) at the top of alternator (2). Loosen the bolt and nut (3) at the bottom of alternator (2). Do not remove bolt (1) and nut (3) at this time.

  1. Push alternator (2) in the direction of the engine in order to release V-belt tension.

  1. Remove the two V-belts (4) from alternator (2) and position the alternator out of the way.

  1. Remove the bolt and washer (1). Remove the bolt, the nut and washer (3) from alternator (2). Remove alternator (2) and cover (5) from the engine.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install alternator (2) and cover (5) onto the engine. Install the bolt, the nut and washer (3). Install the bolt and washer (1) onto alternator (2) .

  1. Install two V-belts (4) onto alternator (2) .

  1. Push alternator (2) away from the engine. See the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the V-belt tension.

  1. Tighten the bolt and nut (3) at the bottom of the alternator (2). Tighten the bolt and washer (1) at the top of the alternator (2) .

  1. Connect all wires to the alternator. Tighten the nut of the ground wire to a torque of 6.2 ± .6 N·m (55.0 ± 5.0 lb in). Tighten the nut of the battery wire connection to a torque of 11.3 ± 2.3 N·m (8.0 ± 2.0 lb ft).

End By: Release the hood latch. Close the hood.
