Air Inlet Heater - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

  1. Loosen four clamps (1) and remove air inlet tube (2) .

  1. Loosen two clamps (4) and lift aftercooler hose (3) off air inlet elbow (5). Remove nut (6) and put ground strap (7) out of the way.

  1. Slide protector (10) off the nut and remove the nut and set cable (8) out of the way.

  1. Remove seven bolts and washers (12) .

    Note: Bolt (9) cannot be removed until the separation of the air inlet elbow (5) and air inlet heater (11) .

  1. Remove air inlet elbow (5) and remove air inlet heater (11) from the engine.

  1. Separate air inlet elbow (5) and air inlet heater (11). Remove the bolt and remove washer (9) from both sides of air inlet heater (11). Remove two gaskets (13) from both sides of air inlet heater (11) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Check gaskets (13) for wear or damage. Replace the gaskets, if necessary. Position gaskets (13) on each side of air inlet heater (11). Install the bolt and washer (9) through the correct hole on the air inlet heater (11) .

  1. Position air inlet elbow (5) onto air inlet heater (11). Position the air inlet elbow and the air inlet heater as a unit onto the engine.

  1. Install seven bolts and washers (12) and tighten bolts (9) and (12). Apply 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant onto the four lower bolts (12) .

  1. Position cable (8) onto air inlet heater (11). Install the nut. Torque the nut to 7.8 ± 1 N·m (69.4 ± 8.9 lb in). Slide protector (10) over the connection.

  1. Position ground strap (7) onto air inlet heater (11) and install nut (6). Torque nut (6) to 7.8 ± 1 N·m (69.4 ± 8.9 lb in).

  1. Position aftercooler hose (3) onto air inlet elbow (5) and tighten two clamps (4) .

  1. Install air inlet tube (2) and tighten four clamps (1) .
