Bogie Drive Chain Tension - Check/Adjust

Usage:

580 7CN

Illustration 1g00868493

  • Activate the pendulum arm lock switch.

    1. Start the engine. Raise one pendulum arm off the ground by approximately 305 mm (12 inch). Properly support the raised pendulum arm with wood blocks.

    1. Rotate boom (1) toward the opposite direction of raised pendulum arm (2) .

      Illustration 3g00580965

    1. Rotate the front wheel clockwise. When the wheel stops rotating, hold the wheel in this position until the check is complete. This removes the slack in the bogie drive chain.

    1. Mark a spot on the rear wheel. Rotate the rear wheel clockwise until the wheel stops rotating. Then, rotate the wheel counterclockwise until the wheel stops rotating.

    1. Note the distance of the rotation. The rear wheel should have rotated by 10 to 13 mm (0.38 to 0.50 inch).

If the bogie drive chain moved farther, an adjustment is required. Proceed with the following adjustment procedure.

    Adjustment Procedure

    Illustration 4g00581007

Bogie drive chain (4) is driven by sprocket (3) that is connected to the front travel motor. The bogie drive chain is routed under two idler gears (5) that provide tension on the bogie drive chain. Bogie drive chain (4) should not be in contact with the bottom of bogie housing (7) .

Perform the following adjustment procedures if the tension of the bogie drive chain is incorrect.

      Illustration 5g00581006

    1. Loosen locknut (9) .

    1. Turn bolt (8) clockwise in order to increase the tension of the bogie drive chain. Turn bolt (8) counterclockwise in order to decrease the tension of the bogie drive chain.

Note: Do not overtighten the bogie drive chain. Overtightening the bogie drive chain causes a loss of rimpull to the wheels.

    1. Check the tension of the bogie drive chain. If the correct tension has not been reached, repeat the adjustment procedure.
