Truck Body and Canopy - Remove

Removal Procedure

    ------ WARNING! ------

    The space between the body and the frame becomes a zero clearance area when the body is lowered. Failure to install the retaining cable can result in injury or death to personnel working in this area.

  1. Move the truck to a suitable area that has a suitable overhead crane indoors or a mobile crane outdoors. Use lifting equipment with adequate lifting capacity in order to handle the weight of the assembled truck body and canopy. The body and canopy weighs approximately 44,230 kg (97,510.3 lb).

  1. Attach the clevis and the lifting straps to the front and the rear of the body and canopy.

  1. Use a lift truck to support rock ejector (4). The rock ejector weighs approximately 115 kg (253.5 lb).

  1. Remove cotter (2), pin (1), washer (3), and rock ejector (4) from the bracket assembly for the ejector.

  1. Repeat Step 3 and Step 4 for the remaining rock ejector.

  1. Remove eight bolts (5), the eight washers, and eight clips (6). Disconnect hose assembly (7) from the head of the hoist cylinder.

  1. Remove hose assembly (7) from the truck body and from the coil at the hinge pin. Temporarily tie the coil to the frame.

  1. Repeat Step 6 and Step 7 for the remaining hose assembly.

  1. If necessary, remove three bolts (10), three nuts (11), the three washers, pad assembly (9), and shims (8). Repeat this process for the remaining seven slipper pad assemblies that are bolted to the rail of the truck body.

  1. If necessary, remove three bolts (14), three nuts (15), the three washers, pad assembly (12), and shim (13). Repeat this process for the remaining pad assembly on the main crossbeam of the truck frame.

  1. Use a suitable chain to support hoist cylinder (20). The hoist cylinder weighs approximately 1150 kg (2535.3 lb).

  1. Remove two bolts (17), the two washers, plate (19), pin assembly (18), and two spacers (16). The pin assembly weighs approximately 22.7 kg (50.05 lb).

  1. Repeat Step 11 and Step 12 for the remaining hoist cylinder.

  1. Retract the hoist cylinders. Secure the hoist cylinders before proceeding to the next step.

  1. Remove two bolts (21) and the two hard washers.

  1. Remove plate (23) .

  1. Remove pin assembly (24) from the body and canopy. The pin assembly weighs approximately 41 kg (90.4 lb).

  1. Remove washer (22) .

    Note: Washer (22) will fall if the pin is removed and the pin is not supported.

  1. Repeat Steps 15 through 18 for the remaining hinge pin.

  1. Lift the truck body enough to allow the truck to be moved away from the work area.

  1. Lower the body and canopy to the floor supports.

  1. If necessary, remove twelve bolts (28), twelve nuts (29), strip (30), and mud flap (33). Remove six bolts (25), six nuts (26), the six washers, and plate (27) .

    Note: Before disassembly, identify the correct location of each mud flap. There is only one correct mounting position on the truck body.

  1. Repeat Step 22 for remaining mud flaps (31), (32), and (34) .
