Note: Under normal operating conditions, a chain may be sharpened three to four times. The chain should then be replaced. The chain needs to be sharpened when smoke is present during cutting operations. The tree will be burned at the cut location. A sharp chain is very important for optimum performance.

1. Remove the saw chain from the saw bar. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Saw Chain - Remove/Install".

2. Round off the front corner of the chain link. Rounding off the corner of the chain link will provide protection against chain kickback. This will also provide maximum performance of the chain.

3. Use a 5.5 mm (7/32 inch) diameter round file in order to sharpen the saw chain. The angle (A) of the cutting edge of the chain should be 35 degrees.

4. Replace the chain. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Saw Chain - Remove/Install".
