Saw bar (4) holds saw chain (3). When the speed of saw chain (3) increases, saw bar (4) swings outward in order to cut the tree. Saw bar (4) is moved by saw cylinder (1). The diameter of the tree will determine the travel distance of the saw bar (4). Position sensors for the saw bar prevent the saw bar from travelling past the diameter of the tree. This allows a faster time for retraction of the saw bar.
The usual life of a saw bar is one week.
