The emergency steering on the above trucks is manually controlled by the operator when the engine stops. With the installation of the parts on page 2, emergency steering will be automatically activated electronically when oil flow from the main steering pump stops. Use this instruction along with the Service Manual and Parts Book for the correct installation procedures.
NOTE: See the Operation and Maintenance Guide, Form SEBU5825 "Supplement 768C, 769C, 772B, 773B, 776 and 777 OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS" for the correct operation of the steering control.

(1) Remove plug (1) and plates (2) and (3). Install 6V4331 Plate (4) and 6V3687 Plate (5). Assemble 3T1891 Cap, 9D3862 Socket, 7N5876 Bulb and 8D9844 Spacer to make steering indicator light (6) and install it where plug (1) was removed.
(2) Connect a piece of 5P5623 Wire (7), 100.0 (3.94") long, to white and black wire (8) with an 8S4626 Splice. White and black wire (8) is a spare wire in the black connector on diode assembly (9). Install a 5P4571 Terminal and a 50.0 (2.0") long piece of 5P6009 Heat Shrink Tubing (10) on the other end of wire (7). Use a small amount of heat to shrink (make smaller) tube (10) around the terminal. Connect wire (7) and orange wire (11) to steering indicator light (6).
(3) Remove the tape from around harness (12) at black connector (13). Cut white and black wire (14) to the length shown. Install 4S1988 Terminal (15) and a 50.0 (2.0") long piece of 5P6009 Heat Shrink Tubing on the end of wire (14). Put electrical tape around harness (12) where the former tape was removed. Connect 5T3896 Harness (16) to terminal (15) and to connector (X) on harness (12).
(4) Put 8F9836 Lug (17) in position on the front of the cab as shown. Make a 3.0 (.12") fillet weld around the lug. Make two blocks (18) from 12.7 (.5") thick mild steel to the dimensions shown. Use a 5.2Ø (.20"Ø) drill bit to make holes (X). Put threads in holes (X) with a 1/4"-20 tap. Install blocks (18) on 9G9162 Control Assembly (19) with four S1615 Bolts (20) and 5P537 Washers. Put control assembly (19) in position at approximately the location shown. Tackweld blocks (18) to the cab frame. Remove control (19) and make 5.0 (.19") fillet welds along each side of the blocks. Install control (19). Connect harness (16) to the connector on control (19). Install the ring terminal on harness (16) and 9G9154 Clip (21) on lug (17) with an S509 Bolt and 3B4506 Lockwasher. Put the wire from control (19) and harness (16) in clip (21). Disconnect orange and brown wire (22) from switch assembly (23). Connect wire (22) to harness (16) and connect harness (16) to switch (23) where wire (22) was removed.
(5) Remove the former circuit breaker and install 9G9487 Circuit Breaker (24) where the former circuit breaker was removed. Remove the tape from harness (25) that holds tan and white wires (26). Connect wires (26) to the top terminal on engine shut off switch (27).
(6) Release the pressure in the hydraulic tank. Remove the former body from steering flow control valve (28) and install 1U3974 Body (29) where the former body was removed. Install 3T705 Switch Assembly (30) and a 3K360 Seal in body (29). Put 8F9836 Lug (31) in position at approximately the location shown. Make a 3.0 (.12") fillet weld around the lug.
NOTE: On 768C, 772B and 773B trucks, control valve (28) is turned so switch (30) will be toward the bottom.
(7) On 776 and 777 trucks, connect 6G8330 Wire Assembly (32) to the connector on switch (30). Put 9G9150 Clip (33) on the connector and fasten the clip to lug (31) with an S509 Bolt and 3B4506 Lockwasher. Connect the respective terminals on wire (32) to tan and white wire (35) and dark blue wire (36) on engine wiring harness (37). Fasten wire (32) to existing lugs on the frame with 4D7794 Clips, S509 Bolts and 3B4506 Lockwashers.
(8) On 768C, 769C, 772B and 773B trucks, remove the eye terminals from the steering flow switch wires of engine wiring harness (37). Install 7N9738 Housing (38), 7N7779 Socket (39) and 7N7780 Pin (40) where the former connectors were removed. See Special Instruction Form SMHS7531, "USE OF 6V3000 SURE SEAL REPAIR KIT" for the correct installation of the Sure Seal adapter. Connect housing (38) to the connector on flow switch (30). Fasten housing (38) to lug (31) with a 9G9150 Clip, S509 Bolt and 3B4506 Lockwasher.
NOTE: Housing (38) was cut away for photo illustration. A 777 truck steering flow valve is also shown. On 768C, 769C, 772B and 773B trucks, the steering flow valve is turned so switch (30) is down.
