Installation Of Antispin Control Groups{4271} Caterpillar

These antispin control groups help to increase traction at the drive wheels. If either drive wheel starts to spin (lose traction), the operator can increase power to the drive wheel that has better traction with a manual application of the brake on the wheel that has the loss of traction. Installation of these control groups is the same outside the cab but inside the cab there are several differences. Use this instruction along with the Service Manual and Parts Book for the correct installation procedure.

NOTE: See the Operation and Maintenance Guide, Form SEBU5825 "Supplement 768C, 769C, 772B, 776 and 777 Off Highway Trucks" for the operation of the antispin control groups. Use pipe thread sealant on all pipe thread connections.

6G8840 And 5T1350 Control Groups (Outside The Cab)

(1) Release the pressure from the air tanks. Disconnect and remove hose (1), elbow (2) and connector (3). These parts will not be needed again. Install a 9S4183 Plug and 3D2824 Seal where connector (3) was removed.

(2) Disconnect hose (4) from the elbow and remove the elbow from brake master cylinder group (5). Install 307959 Tee (6) with a 3K360 Seal where the elbow was removed. Connect hose (4) to tee (6) with a 6V2481 Union.

(3) Fasten 6G7665 Valve (7) to the frame with 6D4636 Clip (8) and the original hardware. Install 307948 Elbow (9) and 8M505 Connector (10) with 3K360 Seals in valve (7). Connect 2G3738 Hose Assembly (11) to elbow (9). Install 8M547 Elbow (12) on tee (6). Connect hose (11) to elbow (12).

(4) Tackweld 6G6 Plate (13) to the right side of the axle housing at approximately the location shown. Fasten 6G7333 Plate Assembly (14) to plate (13) with four S509 Bolts and 5M2894 Washers. Install 6G7709 Valve Group (15) on plate (14) with four S1571 Bolts, 5M2894 Washers and 1D4717 Nuts. Install four 8M505 Connectors (16), (17), (18) and (19) with 3K360 Seals in valve (15). Install 3P2298 Elbow (20) in valve (21) where the former valve was removed. Connect 9S4606 Hose Assembly (22) to elbow (20) and connector (18).

(5) Disconnect hose (23) and remove the elbow from tube (24). Install 8M505 Connector (25) and a 3K360 Seal where the elbow was removed. Connect 9D2224 Hose Assembly (26) to connectors (17) and (25). Install 8M547 Elbow (27) on connector (16).

(6) Connect 2G3738 Hose Assembly (28) to connector (19) and to connector (10) on valve (7). Install two 4S7606 Elbows (29) and (30) in valve (15). Connect two 6G1298 Hoses (31) and (32) to elbows (29) and (30), respectively.

(7) Install two 9M8662 Couplings in the number "7" and "9" holes in plate (33) and install two 5H4778 Elbows (34) and (35) in the couplings. Put hoses (31) and (32) in position along the frame as shown. Connect hose (31) to elbow (34) and connect hose (32) to elbow (35). Use 6K806 Straps and 5K8451 Clips to fasten hoses (31) and (32) to existing hardware and hoses as needed.

6G8840 Control Group (Inside The Cab)

(1) Disconnect and remove hose (1) from the brake control valve and the retarder control valve. Install three 9M8662 Couplings (2), (3) and (4) as shown. If the three holes in plate (5) are not present, use a 20.0Ø (.78"Ø) drill bit to make three holes (A) at approximately the location shown.

(2) Install 3S6115 Tee (6) in coupling (4). Connect 6D9853 Hose Assembly (7) to tee (6) and to the brake control valve where the former hose was removed. Connect 4S7572 Hose Assembly (8) to tee (6) and to the retarder control valve where the former hose was removed. Install 3D7587 Elbow (9) and 5H4778 Elbow (10) in couplings (2) and (3), respectively. Connect 7D3024 Hose Assembly (11) to the coupling in hole "7" (right rear of the cab) and connect 7D3024 Hose Assembly (12) to the coupling in hole "9". Connect hoses (11) and (12) to elbows (9) and (10) as shown.

(3) Install 3D7587 Elbow (13) in the "SUPPLY" opening in 2D6173 Valve (14). Install 3D7587 Elbows (15) and (16) in valve (14). Fasten 6G5 Plate (17) to the steering column with two S509 Bolts and 5M2894 Washers. Fasten valve (14) to plate (17) with two S1617 Bolts and 9M1974 Washers. Install 5H4778 Elbows (18) and (19) in couplings (2) and (3), respectively. Connect 7D5998 Hose Assembly (20) to coupling (4) and to elbow (13). Connect 7D5998 Hose Assembly (21) to elbows (19) and (15). Connect 4S7560 Hose Assembly (22) to elbows (18) and (16). Fasten hoses (20), (21) and (22) to an existing bolt with 6D2834 Clip (23). Install 6G7708 Film (24) on valve (14) as shown.

5T1350 Control Group (Inside The Cab)

(1) Use a 7.5Ø (.30"Ø) drill bit to make two holes (A) through the shift console at the location shown. Use a 20.5Ø (.81"Ø) drill bit to make three holes (B) at the approximate location shown. Use existing holes (C) as a guide to help find the location for the new holes.

(2) Fasten 5T1341 Bracket (1) to transmission control (2) with two 4F7957 Bolts, 5P537 Washers and 1B4330 Nuts. Install three 3B6552 Elbows (3), (4) and (5), with a 4D2560 Connector in each, in the three openings in 5T1300 Valve (6). Install valve (6) on bracket (1) with two 7H3986 Screws. Install three 9M7357 Coupling Assemblies (7), (8) and (9) with a 4J3430 Stop (10) and 4B4283 Washer (11) on each in holes (B). Make the connections that follow: 4S7529 Hose Assembly (12) to coupling (9) and to the connector in elbow (5); 4S7529 Hose Assembly (13) to coupling (8) and to the connector in elbow (4) and 6D4045 Hose Assembly (14) to coupling (7) and to the connector in elbow (3). Fasten hoses (12) and (13) to an existing bolt with 5K8451 Clip (15). Install 5T1339 Film (16) on bracket (1). Install two 3D7587 Elbows (17) and (18) in the couplings in holes "7" and "9", respectively. These couplings were installed in step 7, page 5. Connect 6D4045 Hose Assembly (19) to elbow (17) and to coupling (8); connect 6D4045 Hose Assembly (20) to elbow (18) and to coupling (9). Remove the plug from the air tank and install 3D8884 Elbow (21) and a 4H6147 Connector where the plug was removed. Connect 4S7528 Hose Assembly (22) to coupling (7) and to elbow (21).
