Description of Change: A larger breather tube has been added to the fuel filling system in order to eliminate splash back of fuel and in order to improve the time needed to fill the fuel tank. There is now a kit available that allows the retrofit without drilling holes in the fuel tank.

Adaptable To: All the current machines with above serial break numbers above.

This retrofit can be accomplished with a (160-6934) Fuel Adapter Kit.

Installation Procedure

1. Park the machine on level ground.

2. Lower the boom to the ground.

3. Apply the parking brake.

4. Turn off the engine key switch.

5. Ensure that the fuel level in the fuel tank is not at the maximum level.

6. Remove the rubber floor mat and the floor access plate from the cab floor.

7. Remove the existing breather tube and the breather.

8. Disconnect the wire from the top of the sending unit. Remove the screws that secure the sender unit to the top of the fuel tank. Remove the fuel sender unit from the top of the fuel tank. Note the orientation of the sending unit to the fuel tank for assembly purposes.

9. Use the diagram above in order to bend the float arm to a new angle of twenty-one degrees (B) from the top plane (A) of the sender unit.

10. Carefully remove the gasket from the top of the fuel tank and from the sending unit. Do not allow any debris to fall into the fuel tank.

11. Install Connector (6) to Spacer (11). Install Hose (13) and Clamp (1) to Connector (6).

12. Slide Gaskets (5) and Spacer (11) over the bottom of the sending unit. Install the sender unit to the fuel tank in the correct orientation. Align the bolt holes in the sender to the bolt holes in the sending unit. Install the five new Machine Screws (8) and the hard washers that secure the spacer and the sending unit to the fuel tank.

13. Connect the wire to the top of the sending unit.

14. Position Hose (13) to the front of the cab.

15. Install O-ring Seal (3) on Adapter (2). Insert Adapter (2) through the mounting plate, install Hard Washer (12) on the adapter, and install Pipe Elbow (4) to the adapter.

16. Install Connector (10) to the bottom of Pipe Elbow (4). Install the top of Hose (13) and Clamp (1) to Connector (10). Tighten both Clamps (1) in order to secure Hose (13) to the fittings.

17. Install Elbow (7) to Adapter (2). Orient the elbow to face upward. Install Breather (9) to the elbow.
