Extra Support For Center & Rear Brake Lines {4257}

Usage:


D250E (5TN) Articulated Truck

Description of Change: The center and rear brake lines can vibrate under certain conditions. Extra support can be provided in order to reduce this vibration.

Adaptable To: The extra support is adaptable to first production of the machine listed above.

Parts needed to add the extra support are listed in Chart 1.

Installation Procedure:


Illustration 1.
Spacer (Item 9).

1. Fabricate four new spacers using the dimensions given in Illustration 1 and Chart 2. Use mild steel with a structural yield of 207 to 450 MPa (30,023 to 65,267 psi).

(1) Guard.
(2) Existing Spacer (only this one to be discarded).

2. Remove Guard (1) from the right side of the rear axle as shown in Illustration 2. Retain the hardware.

3. Discard one existing Spacer (2).

Install Guard, New Spacer and Clip.

(5) Washer
(9) Spacer

4. Refer to Illustration 3. Install Spacer (9) and Guard (1) in position, using the existing hardware retained in Step 2.

5. Secure the brake line in position using Clip (3), Bolt (4) and Washer (5).

6. Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for the remaining three guards.

7. Drill one hole 8 mm (.31 in) diameter and 18 mm (.71 in) deep, at the position shown in Illustration 4.

NOTE: Do not drill this hole deeper than 18 mm (.71 in) to avoid breaking through the case into the axle oil compartment.

8. Tap the hole 3/8 x 16 UNC to the full depth.

9. Secure the brake line in position. Install Clip (6), using Bolt (7) and Washer (8) shown in Illustration 5.

10. Repeat Steps 7 through 9 for the remaining axle.
