New Flash Files Require Pressure Sensor Relocation{7414,1902}

Usage:

Challenger 75C (4KK),
Challenger 85C (9TK) Agricultural Tractors

Description of Change:

This article replaces the article titled "Fuel Pressure Monitoring" on Page 3 of the August 10, 1998 issue of Service Magazine.

Reference: Service Magazine; May 04, 1998; Page 3; "Procedure To Retrofit 1R-0762 'Radial Seal' Filter Assembly".

Fuel pressure monitoring capability was introduced with the October 1997 release of Flash Files for Challenger 3176 Engines. This feature allows operators to get an indication of low fuel pressure if it is detected for more than 30 seconds. In order to take advantage of this added feature, a pressure sensor must be relocated to provide a fuel pressure signal to the engine Electronic Control Module (ECM). See the "Conversion Procedure". Once the following "Conversion Procedure" is performed, Fault Code 63 will be displayed if low fuel pressure is detected for more then 30 seconds. The light will go off if fuel pressure goes back up to the normal level. An indication of Low Fuel Pressure may help prevent other problems such as low power, fuel system damage, poor performance, or hard starting. If this relocation is not performed, a false diagnostic Fault Code 63 will be continuously displayed.

Adaptable To: The new 154-8640 Electronic Software Group (Flash File for Challenger 75C) and 154-8642 Electronic Software Group (Flash File for Challenger 85C) are direct replacements for earlier Flash Files. The new Flash Files are adaptable to any Challenger 75C (4KK500-Up) and Challenger 85C (9TK1-Up).

(RIGHT SIDE VIEW) Location where oil pressure sensor (1) is removed.

1. With the engine stopped, disconnect sensor wiring harness (A) from the 3E-7570 Oil Pressure Sensor (1). Remove the oil pressure sensor (1), 3E-2332 Elbow (2), 6V-5049 O-Ring Seal (3) and 6V-5048 O-Ring Seal (4) from the cylinder block. Retain the sensor (1).

2. Install a 9S-4191 Plug and 6V-5049 O-Ring where the elbow (2) was removed from the cylinder block.

3. Reroute the sensor wiring harness (A) from the oil pressure location around to the fuel filter. Use tie straps as required to secure the sensor wiring harness in the new location.
