Summary Of Improvements To Versatile Flotation Systems {6331}

Since first production of the VFS Versatile Flotation Systems, many improvements have been made to manufacturability. In addition there have been many new features added. This article will summarize the improvements made, and the periodicals written.

VFS Trailer Improvements

1993

Jack and chain added to trailer tongue

1997

Frame group

A. Height adjustable hitch with 2-size (class III and IV) clevis

B. Clevis pivots to allow for changes in terrain/angle without drawbar interference

(8XK471-Up, 7XN250-Up)

Idlers

A. New rotating seal design on rear idler shafts

B. New rotating seal design on front idler shafts

(8XK542-Up, 7XN413-Up)

Rollerframe

A. Rollerframe machined after welding rather than prior to welding

B. Rear idler shaft mounting design changed to casting with pin retained axle

C. Wide center axles (VFS50, VFS70) changed from skip to continuous weld

D. Improved midwheel mounts weld transitions

Front idler group (swing link)

A. Horizontal pins secured by bolts rather than welds

B. Pins are now plated

C. Pin bushings changed to teflon coated fiberglass wound type with seals

D. Cast steel belt alignment adjusting lever

Hitch and frame group

A. Redesigned midbeam (hitch and frame version) with 50 percent improvement in bending/torsion

Midwheels

A. Seals changed to new (rotating) design

B. 4C-5595 Water Resistant Grease standard from factory

C. All grease maintenance points removed, fully maintenance free

Midwheels

A. Stronger, simpler cast midwheels [VFS70 only]

(7XN430-Up, 8XK558-Up)

Rollerframe

A. Decals added to rollerframes to clearly mark forward direction

Belt Configurations

NOTE: The 112-4829, 147-8341, 140-1440, 140-1441 and 140-1442 Belts have been discontinued, due to lack of Reman core availability.
