New Inching Modulation Valve And Cable Prevents Oil Leakage {3162,3167}

Usage:

120H (4MK, 2AN, 9YR, 6NM, 6TM, 5FM, 9FN, 3GR),
135H (3YK, 8WN, 7MM),
12H (4XM, 8MN, 2WR, 5ZM, 4ER, 2LR, 2GS),
140H (2ZK, 9TN, 9ZN, 3FR, 8JM, 5HM, 8KM, 3AS),
143H (1AL),
160H (9EJ, 3GM, 3HR, 9JM, 2FM, 6WM, 2HS),
163 (5AK) Motor Graders

Description of Change: A new selector and pressure control valve group and inching control cable assembly are now used to prevent oil leakage. Transmission oil from the inching modulation portion of the selector and pressure control valve group sometimes seeps into the inching cable. Oil travels up the cable and leaks from the clutch control box under the platform.

Adaptable To: The new 150-4894 Selector & Pressure Control Valve is part of the 145-9533 Transmission Hydraulic Control Valve and is a direct replacement for the former 145-9534 Selector & Pressure Control Valve Group (which was canceled) when used with the new parts from the 129-8215 Clutch Control Group. The new 144-5323 Cable Assembly is part of the 129-8215 Clutch Control Group. These changes are effective with 120H (4MK439, 2AN110, 9YR339, 6NM241, 6TM375, 5FM940, 9FN471, 3GR70), 135H (3YK291, 8WN402, 7MM249), 12H (4XM1484, 8MN516, 2WR676, 5ZM298, 4ER521, 2LR294, 2GS363), 140H (2ZK2619, 9TN491, 9ZN216, 3FR152, 8JM285, 5HM1272, 8KM368, 3AS456), 143H (1AL436), 160H (9EJ533, 3GM84, 3HR30, 9JM350, 2FM434, 6WM333, 2HS381), and 163 (5AK159) Motor Graders and are adaptable to earlier machines with the following parts and procedures.

Procedure To Rework Machines:

1. Disconnect both ends of the clutch cable and remove it from the machine.

Refer To Illustration 1 For Steps 2 Through 5.

2. Pull the 6I-8444 Plunger Assembly from the transmission control valve. Remove the 9U-8071 Coupler from the plunger assembly. Install the new 144-2804 Coupler (1) on the 6I-8444 Plunger Assembly. Tighten to a torque of 5 N·m (45 lb in).

3. Install the 146-6261 Lip Seal (2), the 118-5068 O-Ring (3), and the 7M-8485 O-Ring (4) onto the 144-2802 Adapter (5). Use the fluid being sealed to lubricated the lip seal.

4. Put a slight film of oil in the 144-2803 Plunger (6). Hook the plunger to the coupler and slide the new 144-2802 Adapter (5) over the plunger. While pushing the adapter towards the control valve, screw the adapter into the valve and tighten to a torque of 75 N·m (55 lb ft). Push on the plunger several times to check for binding.

NOTE: The plunger will push hard because of the new seals in the adapter.

5. Install the 5D-6539 Seal (7) in the front face of the 144-2802 Adapter (5). Slide the 9X-6578 Nut (8) over the 144-5323 Cable Assembly (9). Place the ball of the cable in the slot provided on the end of the plunger. Actuate the inside cable forward until the flange on the cable contacts the face seal on the adapter. Screw the 9X-6578 Nut (8) onto the 144-2802 Adapter (5) and tighten to a torque of 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

Refer To Illustration 2 For The Following Steps.

6. Route the cable assembly to the control box under the platform. The former 5P-7704 Rod End from the former cable will be required on the new cable. When installing the cable into the control box, it is important to leave only two threads exposed on the cable outside the box at the large 9S-1354 Jam Nut.

NOTE: When installing the 5P-7704 Rod End to the cable, assemble rod end completely on the cable, then back off a minimum 5 mm (.19 in), then tighten jam nut.

7. Remove the existing 8X-7665 Bracket and the former 1D-1313 Spring from the linkage and replace with the new 147-7238 Bracket (10) and the new 149-2065 Spring (11). Remove the 7V-0446 Clip (12) from the pin and remove the former 3K-8280 Pin from the linkage and replace it with the new 3H-8538 Pin (13). After installing the pin through the linkage, install the new 8T-4896 Washer (14) on the end of the pin and install the 7V-0446 Clip (12).

NOTE: The new 147-7238 Bracket assembles parallel with the boxon the two bolts closest to the linkage. For ease of assembling this new spring, which is heavy, install the rear inside cap screw first, then hook the spring and linkage. Finally, swivel the bracket to install the second cap screw.
