New Feeder Control Group Available for Certain Paver Models {5643}

Usage:

AP-1055B (8BM),
AP-1050B (6ZN),
AP-1000B (7HN),
AP-650B (9DN),
BG-2455C (6TN),
BG-245C (4XN),
BG-260C (8GN),
BG-225C (5GN) Asphalt Pavers

Description of Change: A new feeder control group replaces the former feeder group on the paver models listed above. The new feeder control group incorporates software improvements that include the ability to calibrate the maximum auger speed on all listed models and a fixed 8 inch proportional band for the sonic sensor. Details of the software changes are listed below:

Maximum Auger Speed Calibration

Maximum auger speed calibrations have been added to all listed machine models. Previously, this calibration was only available on the AP-650B/BG-225C machine models. The left auger maximum speed calibration will be a c17 and the right auger maximum speed calibration will be c18. Previous versions of the feeder control group software would allow the augers to rotate too quickly and throw material up onto the screed.

Sonic Sensor Filtering

The feeder control group no longer filters the output of the sonic sensor. The sensor itself provides a filtered output. Previous versions of the feeder control group software also filtered the sensors output, which effected the response time of the feeder system.

Sonic Sensor Operating Range

The operating range of the sonic sensor has changed since the original feeder control group went into production. The feeder control group software has changed to correspond to the new distance to duty cycle relationship and new operating range. The new operating range in the software is 10 to 32 inches, which corresponds to 10.52% to 87.96% duty cycle from the sensor.

Sonic Sensor Arc-Window

Previous versions of software had a sonic window that varied from 6 to 14 inches as the height dial was increased. The feeder control group software has set the sonic sensor window at a constant 8 inches.

Sonic Sensor Out of Range Failure Modes

The new feeder control group will display a P03, operator error, when the duty cycle from the sonic sensor is greater than 94.1%. Thus, P03 will be displayed for sonic sensor distances of less than 1 inch or greater than 34 inches. In this condition, the feeder fault lamp on the operator console will be on, the feeder control group will display P03 in Mode -0- and the augers will run at full speed if in automatic. No warning is generated when the material is between 1 inch to 10 inches from the sonic sensor, or 32 inches and 34 inches from the sonic sensor. If the material is less than 10 inches (but more than 1 inch) from the sonic sensor, the augers will be off. Any time the material is more than 32 inches from the sonic sensor, the augers will run at full speed in automatic.

Adaptable To: The new 171-5453 Feeder Control Group is directly adaptable to all machines listed above. Machine effectivity and parts adaptabilities are identified in the following chart:
