Usage:

225 (51U),
225B (2ZD),
225D (2SJ),
229(1GF),
231D (5WJ, 1NK) Excavators;
227 (10W) Loggers;
613C (92X) Wheel Tractors

Description of Change: This article replaces the article titled "Improved Sleeve Metering Fuel System (SMFS) 8.5 mm (.34 in) Fuel Pump Plunger", on Page 15 of the September 30, 1996 issue.

The fuel pump plunger used in the parts service 8.5 mm fuel injection pump assembly for SMFS governor and fuel injection pump groups on the 3208 Engines in these machines has been improved. The improved fuel pump plunger includes balance grooves. See the illustration. The balance grooves help prevent plunger and sleeve scuffing associated with poor quality fuels. Plunger scuffing can cause governor instability due to the change in fuel delivery from one cylinder to another, or from increased sleeve to plunger friction.

Improved (A) and former (B) fuel pump plungers. Balance Groove (1).

Adaptable To: The improved fuel pump plunger, with balance grooves, is used in the parts service 8.5mm 1W-3010 Fuel Injection Pump Assembly.
