Usage:
Start By:
a. remove torque converter inlet relief valve
b. remove torque converter outlet relief valve
1. Remove two O-ring seals (1) from the torque converter inlet relief valve.
2. Loosen the bolts that hold cover (3) in place until there is a gap of 6.4 mm (.25 in) between the cover and the body.
3. Remove cover (2) from the body. Remove the O-ring seal from behind cover (2).
4. Remove cover (3) from the body. Remove the O-ring seal from behind cover (3).
NOTE: Spring (6) in the inlet relief valve is larger than spring (6) in the outlet relief valve. See Specifications.
5. Remove spring (6) from spool (4). Remove spool (4) from the body. Remove spacers (5) from the spool.
6. Remove spiral lock (10) from spool (4). Remove retainer (9), spring (8) and poppet (7) from spool (4).
Assemble Torque Converter Inlet And Outlet Relief Valves
1. Clean all parts thoroughly, and put a thin layer of SAE 10W oil on each of the parts.
2. Put poppet (2) and spring (1) in position in spool (3).
3. Put retainer (4) in position in spool (3), and install spiral lock (5) to hold it.
NOTE: Spring (7) in the inlet relief valve is larger than spring (7) in the outlet relief valve. See Specifications.
4. Put the spacers and spring (7) in position in spool (3). Put spool (3) in position in body (6).
5. Put the O-ring seal and cover (8) in position on body (6). Install the washers and bolts that hold the cover in position. Tighten the two bolts to a torque of 48 ± 7 N·m (35 ± 5 lb ft).
6. Put the O-ring seal and cover (9) in position on body (6). Install the washers and bolts that hold the cover in position. Tighten the two bolts to a torque of 48 ± 7 N·m (35 ± 5 lb ft).
7. Put O-ring seals (10) in position on body (6) as shown.
