Certain water pumps in Parts Stock for use on 3300 and 3400 Engines need to have the coolant seal groups replaced. Certain water pump coolant seal groups need to be removed from Parts Stock.
Action Required
Remove all 106-7150 Seals (Chg 01) from Parts Stock.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove any of the former 106-7150 Seals manufactured to Change 00. 106-7150 Seals manufactured to Change 00 can be used for this rework.
Inspect the following water pumps in Parts Stock for a date code of 2-94 through 5-94 (NMDR, NEDR, DRDR, and NADR). The date code should be located next to the part number.
If the water pumps have one of these date codes, refer to Special Instruction SEHS8449 or the system operation, test and adjust section of the Service Manual to change the coolant seal.
Remove the impeller and the rotating portion of the existing coolant Seal (Chg 01). Leave the stationary portion of the coolant seal in place to simplify the repair. Install the rotating portion of the new 118-9163 Coolant Seal. After lubricating the shaft with clean water or coolant, use the 2W9102 Installation Tool to push the rotating portion of the seal onto the shaft. Install the spring and impeller. Tighten the impeller bolt to a torque of 39 ± 3 N·m (28 ± ft. lb.).
NOTE: The rotating portion of a the former 106-7150 Chg 00 Coolant Seal can also be used if there are any in dealer Parts Stock. Reuse the spring from the Parts Stock water pump if a 106-7150 Chg2000 Coolant Seal is used.
