Rework Procedure
1. Park the machine on a level surface and install the steering locks. Disengage the parking brake.
2. Lower the suspension to the service position and install wheel chocks on the trailer axles.
3. Raise the tractor axle until the wheels are clear of the ground, and support the axle housing with suitable stands.
4. Remove the tires and rims.
5. Drain the oil from the final drives.
6. Remove the final drives from the wheel assemblies.
7. Remove the 107-5572 Wheel Assemblies complete with brake drums from the axle housing.
8. Remove the bolts and washers securing the brake drums to the wheel assemblies. The bolts and washers will not be reused. If the bolts are loose, inspect and replace any damaged parts. Make sure all joint faces, threaded holes, and bolt seating areas are clean and are not damaged.
9. Install the drums to the wheel assemblies using the 1B4367 Bolts and 5T8224 Spacers as shown in the Illustration. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 120 ± 10 N.m (88 ± 7 lb ft). Then tighten the bolts an additional 120 ± 10 degrees using a cross pattern to tighten the joint uniformly.
10. Install the wheel assemblies to the axle housing and adjust the wheel bearings. See the Service Manual for the procedure.
11. Install the final drives.
12. Install the rims and tires.
13. Remove the stands and lower the tractor.
14. Fill the tractor axle with oil.
15. Block the tractor axle with wheel chocks.
16. Raise and support the trailer axle(s) with suitable stands. Repeat Steps 4 through 12 to replace the trailer axle(s) brake drum bolts and washers.
17. Remove the stands and lower the trailer.
18. Fill the trailer axle(s) with oil.
19. Operate the machine in a flat, open area to confirm the brakes operate properly.
