Corrected "5.4" 60°V Main Bearing Selection Guide" Is Now Available{0374,1203,1202}

Usage:

All 5.4"
Bore 60°
V-Type Engines

An earlier article "New Main And Connecting Rod Bearings Have A Thicker Layer Of Surface Material" on Pages 1, 2 and 3 of the September 17, 1979 Service Magazine, tells about the selection of crankshaft main bearings according to the radius on the crankshaft journal. This article also tells about a pocket size card, "5.4" 60°V Main Bearing Selection Guide" Form SEBD0523, which was made available to permit a fast, easy check of the journal radius for selection of the correct main bearings. The card has two opposite corners cut to the approximate radii of the earlier and later main bearing journals, so it can be used as a radius gauge.

An error was made in identification of the radius corners on a quantity of these cards. These cards show ".226"R (5.74 mm)" on the corner with the large radius, and ".299"R (5.74 mm)" on the corner with the small radius. This can possibly cause the selection of wrong bearings.

New cards are now available, which show the correct identification of the radius corners. The form number (SEBD0523) is not changed, but the new cards have a date (11/80) shown in red. To be sure you have a correct card, the recommendation is to use only the "5.4" 60°V Main Bearing Selection Guide" cards with the red (11/80) date.
