New Publication: Engine Bearings And Crankshafts{0374}

Usage:

"Engine Bearings and Crankshafts", Form SEBD0531 is the most complete reference source of service information on these components that Caterpillar has printed under one cover. The material included in the book provides guidance to help make engine lower structure service work more successful. It must however be used with other service literature such as Service Manuals and/or Engine Assembly Charts.

Many of you and your customers saw this book at the Caterpillar exhibition at CONEXPO in Houston. Most of you seemed favorably impressed with its comprehensive coverage of the subject material.

It is a four-color perfect bound book, divided into 14 sections. The first three sections cover new engine bearing information not previously published. Section 1, "Bearings in Caterpillar Engines", covers bearing design, physical features, and lubrication system function and maintenance. Section 2, "Overhaul of the Engine Lower Structure," discusses the correct procedures for overhauling the engine lower structure. Section 3, "Failure Analysis for Main and Connecting Rod Bearings," shows you how to determine the cause of worn or failed bearings.

Sections 4 through 10 contain previously published Guidelines for Reusable Parts on bearings and crankshafts.

Sections 11 through 14 are Special Instructions detailing the tools needed during engine overhaul and how to use them.

This book will prove to be a valuable tool for all engine servicemen whether you are a trainee or a skilled diagnostician. It was announced in the January 15, 1981 Preview. It can also be ordered on a Miscellaneous Material Order through normal literature ordering channels.
