Rain Water May Enter in Muffler/Silencers on Certain 3516 Power Modules {1062} Caterpillar

Rain Water May Enter in Muffler/Silencers on Certain 3516 Power Modules {1062}

Usage:

PMG3516 JKK
Power Module
PMG3516 (S/N: JKK1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Rain water may enter the muffler/silencers on certain G3516 power modules if the drain hole in the exhaust outlet external sump area is not working properly. In some cases, rain water intrusion into the exhaust system may result in water entering the engine lubrication oil system (Oil Pan).

Screen partially removed.

Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but a permanent repair has not been identified. As an interim solution, remove the screen at the outlet of the drain, and periodically clear the drain line. Verify that water flows freely from the top drain hole of the silencer through to the ground.
