Cylinder Head - Remove and Install

Usage:

C12.9 PC7

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove camshaft gear.

  2. Remove camshaft.

  3. Remove the exhaust manifold.

  4. Remove the electronic control module.

  5. Remove high-pressure aftercooler.

  6. Remove the valve cover.

  7. Remove the electronic unit injectors.

  8. Remove fuel lines.

  9. Remove the rocker arm and shaft assembly.

  1. Remove bolts (1) and bolts (2) and discard.

  2. Use a suitable lifting device to remove cylinder head (3). The weight of cylinder head (3) is approximately 178 kg (392 lb).

  3. Remove gasket (4) from the cylinder block.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the cylinder head in reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply clean engine oil to the threads of bolts (1) and bolts (2).

    2. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown in Illustration 5.

      Note: Bolts (1) and bolts (2) are to be fully tightened for single use and must be discarded and replaced if loosened or removed after tightening.

      1. Tighten bolts (1) and bolts (2) to a torque of 75 ± 4 N·m (55 ± 3 lb ft).

      2. Tighten bolts (1) and bolts (2) to a torque of 150 ± 8 N·m (111 ± 6 lb ft).

      3. Tighten bolts (1) and bolts (2) again an extra 90°± 5°.

      4. Tighten bolts (1) and bolts (2) again an extra 75°± 4°.
