Priority Valve - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Do not remove the priority valve while the engine is hot. Hot oil can cause burns.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Allow the engine to cool after shutdown. Allow the volume of engine oil above the priority valve, the engine oil filters, and the engine oil cooler to drain to the engine oil pan.

  2. Remove plug (7) from elbow (6). Drain the engine oil from the elbow. Open the drain valves on the engine oil filters.

  3. Disconnect harness assembly (2) from elbow (6). Remove bolts (3) and (1) from elbow (6). Remove elbow (6).

  4. Remove bolts (4) and (5) from elbow (8). Remove elbow (8) from tube assembly (9) and the priority valve. Remove the bolt that holds the bracket for tube assembly (9) to the priority valve.

  5. Remove bolts (10). Remove priority valve (11) from the front housing.

  6. Remove O-ring seals (12) from the front housing.

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

  1. Install O-ring seals (12) around the sleeves in the front housing.

  2. Place priority valve (11) into position on the front housing. Install bolts (10) that hold the priority valve in place.

  3. Install tube assembly (9) with bolts (5). Install elbow (8) with bolts (4). Install the bolt that holds the bracket for tube (9) to the priority valve.

  4. Install elbow (6) with bolts (1) and (3). Ensure that the O-ring seals are in place.

  5. Install plug (7) to elbow (6). Connect Harness assembly (2) to elbow (6). Close the drain valves on the engine oil filters.

  6. Ensure that the engine is filled with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change".
