Start By:

  1. Remove air shutoff.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Remove bolt (2), bolts (3), bolt (4), and the clamps.

  3. Disconnect tube assembly (1), tube assembly (8), and tube assembly (9).

  4. Remove bolt (7), bolt (10), bracket (5), and bracket (6).

  5. Remove bolt (14) and the clamps.

  6. Disconnect tube assembly (13).

  7. Remove bolt (11) and bracket (12).

  8. Use a suitable lifting device to remove air inlet cover (15). The weight of air inlet cover is approximately 36 kg (79 lb).

  9. Remove bolts (16), air inlet cover (15), and the seal.

  10. Remove bolts (19) and bolts (22). Disconnect tube assembly (20) and tube assembly (21).

  11. Remove bolts (17) and elbow (18).

  12. Use a suitable lifting device to remove aftercooler (23) and the seal. The weight of aftercooler (23) is approximately 59 kg (130 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install aftercooler (23) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Install the seals to aftercooler (23) and temporarily secure the seals with tape.

      Note: Do not use RTV, adhesive, or lubricants for seal retention.

    2. Install air inlet cover (15) and bolts (16). Tighten bolts (16) in numerical sequence shown in illustration 6 to a torque of 24 N·m (212 lb in). Tighten bolts (16) in numerical sequence shown in illustration 6 to a final torque of 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

    3. Remove tape that is holding the seals in place.

    4. Lubricate the bore of tube assembly (20) with Tooling (A).
