Housing (Front) - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove engine oil filter housings.

  2. Remove the front idler gears.

  3. Remove the crankshaft front seal.

  4. Remove the fuel transfer pump.

  5. Remove the priority valve.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change" for the correct draining procedure.

  2. Remove the oil suction tube.

  3. Remove the oil supply tube that is between the prelubrication oil pump and the oil distribution tee.

  4. Remove the bolts that hold the engine oil pan to the bottom of the front housing.

  5. Remove sleeve (1). Remove the O-ring seals from the sleeve.

    Note: Sleeve (1) carries filtered oil to the crankshaft. Therefore, cleanliness is important during this procedure.

  6. Remove bolts (2) from the inside of the front housing.

  7. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the top of front housing (4). The weight of front housing (4) is approximately 256 kg (565 lb).

  8. Remove two bolts (3) and install Tooling (B) in the cylinder block as shown in Illustration 2. Remove remaining bolts (3). Carefully move front housing (4) along Tooling (B) and remove front housing (4).

  9. Remove gasket (5) from the front of the cylinder block.

  10. If necessary, remove tube assembly (6) from front housing (4).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install tube assembly (6) in front housing (4).

  2. Install Tooling (B) in the front of the cylinder block.

  3. Place gasket (5) in position on Tooling (B).

  4. Trim gasket (5). Trim this gasket even with the bottom of the cylinder block.

  5. Apply Tooling (C) to the engine oil pan and replace the section of the gasket for the engine oil pan. Apply Tooling (D) to the top of the section of the new gasket. Apply Tooling (D) to the intersection of the cylinder block, engine oil pan, and front housing. Tooling (D) will assist with installation of the front housing.

  6. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the top of front housing (4). The weight of front housing (4) is approximately 256 kg (565 lb).

  7. Place the front housing in position on Tooling (B). Install bolts (3) that hold the front housing in place.

  8. Remove Tooling (B) and install the remaining bolts.

  9. Install bolts (2).

  10. Place the O-ring seals in position on sleeve (1). Apply clean engine oil to the sleeve.

  11. Install sleeve (1) in the front housing.

  12. Trim the bottom of the front housing gasket even with the bottom of the cylinder block.

  13. Install the bolts that hold the engine oil pan to the bottom of the front housing.

  14. Install the oil supply tube that is between the prelubrication oil pump and the oil distribution tee.

  15. Install the oil suction tube.

  16. Fill the engine oil pan with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change" for the correct filling procedure.

End By:

  1. Install the priority valve.

  2. Install the fuel transfer pump.

  3. Install the crankshaft front seal.

  4. Install the front idler gears.

  5. Install the engine oil filter housings.
