Description of Change: The new damper group provides additional protection against oil leaks.

Adaptable To: The new 362-7672 Damper Gp replaces the existing 317-1639 Damper Gp. The new damper group is adaptable back to first production on the serial numbers listed above.

Refer to Table 1 for a list of part numbers needed to install the new damper group.

Damper Group Installation Procedure

1. Set cylinder 1 to Top Dead Center (TDC).

2. Remove the existing damper guard, damper, hub, and seals. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, UENR5600 for the proper procedures.

3. Install a new 6V-9028 O-Ring Seal onto each of the two 241-6157 Plugs .

4. Install the 241-6157 Plugs into the supply and return holes in the crankshaft.

5. For Type I Crankshafts: Install a 397-2457 Dowel into the flat side of the 370-6871 Adapter. Then, install a 146-3173 Dowel into the side of the hub with the extension.

   For Type II Crankshafts: Install a 146-3173 Dowel into both sides of the 370-6871 Adapter .

6. Install the 370-6871 Adapter onto the crankshaft using 323-4712 Threaded Rods .

7. Install the 362-7672 Damper Gp .

8. Lubricate the threads and under the bolt head of the 240-0312 Bolts with 334-0519 Grease .

9. Install a 478-1756 Hard Washer on each of the 240-0312 Bolts .

10. Install the 240-0312 Bolts with the 478-1756 Hard Washers installed.

11. Pre-torque the damper bolts in the order shown in Illustration 1.

    Torque for the 240-0312 Bolts ... 350 ± 50 N·m (258 ± 37 lb ft)

12. Torque the damper bolts in the order shown in Illustration 1.

    Torque for the 240-0312 Bolts ... 800 ± 100 N·m (590 ± 74 lb ft)
