Usage:
3306 (69D, 76R),
3306B (5KD, 63Z),
3306C (2AZ, 7RJ, 9TL) Truck Engines
Reference: Truck Engine News, May 1998, Page 3, "New Valve Cover Seal Used".
Description of Change: A new spacer base has been introduced for use with Jacobs(r) engine compression brakes. The new spacer base allows the use of an integral seal between the spacer base and the valve mechanism cover. The integral seal will provide improved sealing and may be reused up to three times.
Adaptable To: The new 166-6369 Spacer Base is adaptable to all of these truck engines. Previously, as stated in the referenced article, a valve mechanism cover that used the 133-1247 Integral Seal was not compatible with truck engines equipped with Jacobs(r) engine compression brakes. Now, by using the new 166-6369 Spacer Base, a truck engine equipped with a Jacobs(r) engine compression brake can use the 133-1247 Integral Seal between the spacer base and the valve mechanism cover. The new 166-6369 Spacer Base became effective in production with 3306C (9TL22621) Truck Engine. The chart identifies the components required to install the new 166-6369 Spacer Base with the 133-1247 Integral Seal. Use the following procedure to install the new 166-6369 Spacer Base.

1. Place gasket (6) on the cylinder head.
2. Install spacer base (5) on the cylinder head using bolts (7). Tighten bolts (7) in the numerical sequence shown in Illustration 2 to a torque of 16 ± 3 N·m (12 ± 2 lb ft).

3. Place integral seal (2) on the Base Assembly (5).
4. Secure valve mechanism cover (1) to the spacer base (5) using bolts (3) and washers (4). Tighten bolts (3) in the numerical sequence shown in Illustration 3 to a torque of 16 ± 3 N·m (12 ± 2 lb ft).
