Do Not Reuse The Spring Washers That Are Between The Front Cover And Front Plate On Some 3406E Truck Engines{1162}

Usage:

3406E (5EK, 5DS, 6TS, 1LW) Truck Engines

Caterpillar does not recommend the reuse of the 149-0973 and 149-4163 Spring Washers that are between the front cover and front plate on some of these engines. The illustration shows the possible locations of the spring washers. If these spring washers are removed from the engine during disassembly, they should not be reused. Install new spring washers if the spring washers were there at disassembly.

Locations of 149-4163 Spring Washer (A) and 149-0973 Spring Washers (B) on some 3406E Truck Engines.

Install one new 149-4163 Spring Washer (A), cupped side down, between the standard washer and the underside of the bolt head.

Install two new 149-0973 Spring Washers (B), cupped side toward the plate surface, on EACH bolt.

NOTE: Do not install the spring washers at locations (A) and (B) if spring washers were not at these locations at disassembly.
