Service Procedure For 40 Pin Connector Seal{1901}

Usage:

3176B (9CK),
3406E (5EK) Truck Engines

The 110-6844 "Step" Seal is the ONLY seal available for parts service of the 40 pin connectors P1 (P/N 110-6845) and P2 (P/N 110-6846). See Illustration 1. If a new wiring harness or P1/P2 40 pin connector is installed, always verify that the 110-6844 "Step" Seal is used.

When installing a 110-6844 Seal, apply a light coat (approximately a 3.2 mm (0.125 in) diameter dot) of 1P-0808 All Purpose Lubricant (white lithium grease) on the seal prior to assembly. A 1U-9053 Grease Capsule is available and contains the proper type and amount of lithium grease.

The 3E-6285 "Non-Step" Seal was not factory installed for a period of time but is again being installed in the factory. See Illustration 2. Late versions of the 3E-0360 ECM and the current 108-0491 ECM have an internal (Non-Serviceable) 40 pin connector face seal on connectors J1 and J2 to allow factory use of the "Non-Step" seal. Refer to the following table for specific usage of the "Step" and "Non-Step" 40 pin connector seals.
