3176B (9CK) Truck Engines
The Jacobs Vehicle Equipment Company has released the Model 310A Jake Brake for the 1994 Caterpillar 3176B Truck Engine. The Model 310A Jake Brake is approved for all ratings of the 3176B Truck Engine, but can ONLY be used on 3176B Truck Engines. The Model 310A Jake Brake is factory installed on 3176B Truck Engines 9CK1822-Up. The Model 310A Jake Brake provides up to 320 braking horsepower at 2100 rpm.
This new model incorporates a variety of new parts into its design. The electrical solenoid valve is 12 VDC dual lead. This allows the engine Electronic Control Module (ECM) to provide all control signals to the Jake Brake. The master piston contacts directly on the injector rocker arm through a "foot" at the end of the master piston.
Additionally, the Model 310A incorporates an accumulator which dampens pressure spikes internal to the housing. This provides greater performance and reliability than previous designs.
The slave lash adjustment for the Model 310A is 0.020 inch for all ratings. Jacobs provides a special feeler gage, Jacobs Part Number 018424, for use in adjusting the Model 310A.
All required parts and installation instructions are documented in Jacobs publications:
- Parts Manual, Jacobs Part Number 019643
- Installation Manual, Jacobs Part Number 019642
Also available is a Specifications Sheet, Jacobs Form Number 3258, which gives all performance characteristics and dimensional information. These publication are available from your local Jake Brake Distributor.
